In the education systems of most countries, the test is the moment in which our learning is not an all-or-nothing task.
Days or even weeks of attending classes or self-study may fail if we appear for exams at the time of exams. Therefore mastering study methods is very important when it comes to making the most of our knowledge and abilities.
face a tough test
Spain is a country whose educational system is a serious problem; Both elementary and middle schools do not teach students effective ways to study, something that should be important in the learning process. In my first year at university, I limited myself to memorizing only, a task that was too tiring for me, so I started looking for other ways to study for the exam.
My grades greatly improved as I mastered these new methods (because no one is perfect); In most of the subjects, I went up to more than three marks (in the exam with a maximum score of 10). The truth is that I doubt I would have gotten such good grades without these study techniques; University is tough and at that time I had to understand and assimilate a lot of information. It was clear that the study methods worked for me, and I think they can also be useful for those who need to pass the exam. So I have decided to share them.

10 ways to study before the exam |
Best study techniques and methods
.However, these methods of study are not a panacea against vaginosis: effort and perseverance are the basis of success!
1. Rewards
Thinking about the image that you have for 2-3 hours of study is, let’s say, a little… provocative. But there is a way to make it less heavy:
Take a break every 50-60 minutes and do some activity you enjoy for 10 minutes: watching TV, reading, exercising, etc. It is a matter of knowing that this effort is not superhuman, on the contrary; It is about combining the effort devoted to study with enjoyable activities or leisure activities, unconsciously associating study with something positive and sobriety.
2. Out of distractions!
Are you the classic student who spends every minute in class looking at Facebook or scrambling in notebooks? Don’t be afraid, there are many of them. They are the ones who study for 1 hour out of every 4.
This is because it takes about 10 minutes to reach a complete state of concentration. At this point, if this concentration process is interrupted by active or passive, you must restart the process.
And what can we do to avoid being distracted? Avoid social networks, hide or turn off your mobile, turn away from the TV, etc. Those are the little details that although they seem insignificant, matter. This method of study can be summed up as follows: When you rest, relax, and don’t complicate your life, but when it’s time to study, give yourself something else to do. Don’t surrender.
3. Music to Focus
We would agree that putting on heavy metal or electronic songs to study works for very few people… but despite the popular belief that you don’t have to listen to music when it comes to studying, there are certain There are melodies and sounds that can help you enter a state of relaxation. You can try, for example, to meditate with musical pieces.
Other tips about music while studying:
- Avoid putting in the typical catchy song, or one that you really like.
- Choose a playlist that is at least 50 minutes long, so you won’t have to search for songs after a while.
- The radio doesn’t work. The voices of the presenters can be disturbing when it comes to studies.
4. Study in advance
In the race, I studied neither the day before the exam nor the same day. Nor for the most important exam-like final. The key is to study months in advance, a little each day. If you study an exam that you have for a day or two within two months then you are assured of success.
The information will be structured in your long-term mind, it will be preserved for a long time and you can use it when needed. If you study in a hurry the day before or two or three days in advance, you may approve, but the knowledge will not be certain and you will forget it. Things will get difficult in the future, when teachers will assume that you remember the material of the previous lessons.
5. Mind Map
A mental map is a schematic image used to represent words, ideas or concepts surrounding a central idea. Mind maps are a very good method for remembering information. I recommend it!
6. Do physical exercise
Although it may not sound like it, exercise can be part of study methods. According to a study by the University of Illinois, exercising 20-30 minutes before the exam improves concentration. Several times, before an exam I went to the gym to de-stress, after all, I had already studied well and could afford (as a reward).
From my point of view, it is a big mistake to think that exam day or before you have to spend it till the last minute studying. You have to give yourself some room to be in the best possible physical condition to relax your muscles and train your muscles before going through the pressure of the exam. We are human!
7. Change study locations
If you change the places where you study you will improve your concentration and you can retain more data. This is because studying in one place, active or passive, disturbs us. Introducing new variables into the study breaks that routine and gives us an oxygen balloon to study.
A good option would be to alternate between your home and various public libraries.
8. Eat Well and Healthy
Hunger will keep you energized and without distraction. I recommend you eat something before the study, especially almonds (phenylalanine, which stimulates neurons) and beets (uridine monophosphate helps to improve cognitive abilities).
9. Have a positive spirit!
A positive mindset is very helpful when it comes to getting good grades. Many peers, attaching too much importance to the results, were overly concerned about what they did and experienced before the exam, which made the state and disorient them (self-fulfilling prophecy). So it is important to stay calm and have a positive attitude.
Plus, being pessimistic about the outcome we’re going to get gives us an excuse to stop fighting. This is a phenomenon known as learned helplessness.
10. Make fun of the exam
Simulating a test by simulation is often more useful than reading or drawing. You rethink possible logical questions (which probably coincide with the actual exam) and help regulate past anxiety, as the “real” test will be only one of many.
Also, taking mock tests is one of the most useful study methods, as it helps you find gaps and weaknesses in your knowledge.
